Factory Work

Rhode Island is the smallest state in the nation, and contains one of the smallest populations. However, as anyone who already owns some Providence Rhode Island real estate already can tell you, the city and state have always had a healthy economy. This could be because the industries of Rhode Island have always been focused on a small number of constantly needed goods, which require a human touch to perfect. The factory work available in Providence is generally not as heavy as that on the mainland, with little need for the process calibrators and other high tech equipment necessary to larger industry. Let's take a look at what Providence's factories are known for.

Textiles

The longest running manufacturing niche in Providence by far is the textile industry. As with other small and contained place, Rhode Island was an ideal place to raise the livestock important to industry through much of its history. It is also one of the first stops on the Atlantic seaboard, therefore it became an ideal spot for processing raw exotic goods. Traditional factories would process silk and other goods, package them with the help of ratchet straps, and send them off to Massachusetts for shipping.

Today the textile industry in Providence is still going strong. Duplex strainers separate chemicals for coloring materials and for running the hundreds of heavy duty machines which operate on the floors. There is a lot of work for people with a wide variety of skill levels.

Jewelry

Providence is known as the jewelry capital of the United States, because of the wide variety of baubles produced by factories in the area. Cord grips assist workers on the floor as they put together intricate pieces of jewelry of all sorts.

We say all sorts because the type of jewelry you will find manufactured in Providence runs the gamut from expensive to fun. It's one of the biggest producers of costume jewelry in the United States, as well as producing the various pieces of expensive jewelry you will find in stores all over the continent.

Silverware

It's a natural extension for a location with a history of jewelry manufacturing to also be involved in the silver trade. Silverware is still made in great quantities at Providence factories. The face of the factories has changed, with instantaneous water heaters allowing them to run in a less expensive and more environmentally friendly way, but the jobs within them are the same as they were two decades ago.
