Entertainment Alternatives in Providence RI

Providence is home to an 1100-acre park system, including Waterplace Park and Riverwalk, Roger Williams Park, Roger Williams National Memorial, and Prospect Terrace Park, the latter featuring expansive views of the historic and beautiful downtown region. The East Side neighborhood of Providence includes the largest contiguous area of buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the U.S. featuring many pre-revolutionary houses.


Providence is full of culture and history. The Rhode Island School of Design Museum's art collection is the 20th largest collection of art in the world.  Providence is home to the First Baptist Church in America, the oldest Baptist church in the Americas. Downcity Providence is home to the fourth largest unsupported dome in the world (the second largest marble dome after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome), as well as the Westminster Arcade, which is the oldest enclosed shopping center in the U.S.


For sports fans, Providence has no shortage of athletic competition. The city is home to the American Hockey League team Providence Bruins, who are is the farm team for the Boston Bruins, and play at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Also, the Pawtucket Red Sox, 'AAA' affiliate to the Boston Red Sox, play in nearby Pawtucket, and the New England Patriots, of the NFL play in Foxborough, just around half an hour away. Also, Boston, which is just under an hour drive, has the Celtics of the NBA, the Buins of the NHL, and the Red Sox, the Major League Baseball Team.


Brown Univeristy also competes in most NCAA Division I sports, in downtown Providence.
